A Berkeley County jury has convicted a Hanahan man who in 2017 opened fireplace with a military-style rifle on a Sangaree dwelling, riddling it with bullets and killing a person.
Maurice Durell Wigfall was sentenced on Jan. 27 to 45 years in jail for the homicide of Steven Hutchins and one other 5 years for a weapons offense.
Circuit Choose Jennifer McCoy handed down the punishment following a four-day trial, throughout which the jury heard that Wigfall — together with a co-defendant, who remains to be awaiting trial — had shot on the dwelling on Beauregard Street in retaliation, in line with ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson.
The 37-year-old Wigfall was charged alongside Joshua Scott Westall, whose case remains to be pending, in line with on-line courtroom data.
Early Oct. 31, 2017, Westall had been on the dwelling when he was robbed of a gun, Wilson stated in a launch saying the conviction. Testimony revealed that Westall returned round 7 a.m. with Wigfall, whom Westall was residing with on the time.
