Florida’s governor suspends one other elected prosecutor, citing neglect of responsibility to prosecute

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an govt order Wednesday that suspends a second elected prosecutor from workplace, citing actions that she took to keep away from triggering necessary minimal sentences.

DeSantis suspended Monique H. Worrell, the state lawyer for Florida’s Ninth Judicial Circuit, in an Aug. 9 order, report Law.com, the Tampa Bay Times, Reuters and the New York Times. The circuit consists of Orange and Osceola counties.

The order cites “neglect of responsibility” and “incompetence” for administration of justice that’s “clearly and essentially derelict.”

Worrell has prevented triggering necessary minimal sentences and sentencing enhancements, the order says, by dropping or failing to file “meritorious prices” and by declining to allege provable information. She has additionally discouraged charging juveniles as adults, in keeping with the order.
