Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been a vocal critic of the capital punishment after he himself was sentenced to death in 1965 following accusations that he bombed a practice whereas preventing in opposition to British white minority rule in the course of the Zimbabwe’s battle for independence.

Though remaining authorized till these new modifications to the legislation, Zimbabwe has not carried out an execution within the nation since 2005. Zimbabwe has executed 79 people since because it gained independence in 1980.
